Croydon Youth Arts
2014

From Jan – March 2014, BitterSuite ran an education project for 12-17 year olds funded as part of the Sound Connections INNOVATE series. We worked with a group of vulnerable young people based in North Croydon. All participants were referred to us by social services.
We challenged participants to connect with classical music, explore their senses and engage creatively with the music as a group. Each week, through improvisation, experimentation, and group discussion, the young people participated in the workshops would form new links between their senses and broaden their musical influences. Each participant had the opportunity to create a new representation of a piece of classical music: a graffiti mural, a perfume, a movement piece, a series of tastes and a texture score.
None complained it was classical music. Infact they even clapped at the end
